BRINGING MEDITATION AND COMPASSION INTO YOUR DAILY RITUAL
In general everyone already has some compassion, however it can be very biased and limited. When our family and friends are suffering it is easy to develop compassion for them, less easy for ourselves and for people we find unpleasant. Meditation can help us to extend and deepen our compassion. We sometimes meet people who radiate peace and seem so happy and content and you may say something like, “she is so lovely, I love being around her energy, I always feel so much better”- you are seeing their awakened self– what they reflect back to you is your own capacity for being awake. In order to give we need to live in complete happiness with ourselves, we need to develop a shift in consciousness and create a space for insights.
When we engage the heart, mind and body we begin to build the capacity to tune into a part of us that we have shut off from for a long time. Just like the old radio players where we would move the crackling dial until we “tuned” into the right station, ok I am showing my age now! where the music and speaking would be crystal clear.
Meditation practice allows us to “tune into” our Female Frequency, our compassionate tone, accessing inner wisdom and guidance enabling us to work towards great compassion with ourselves and others. Women often live in a state of people pleasing and accommodating, wanting to fix, creating energetic blocks (imbalance) often leading to great depletion of energy from the heart area. Most women experience this as background heavy and tired energies. Practicing breath work and meditation can bring your heart, mind and body to a conscious flow and healthier, happier life.
I have been fortunate to learn many different breath and meditation techniques with great teachers, across many cultures and faiths from around the world. I agonised for many hours wondering whether I was doing things right, gaining success with some, and not really feeling it with others! Over the years I began to realise that breath and meditation in its simplest form is not about me sitting in a particular way, the length of time or how I do it. It is simply me going quiet and still long enough to connect with me.
I also had to learn to be patient with my new practice until I found a way that worked for me. I found that what worked for me in the morning didn’t necessarily work for me at night or during the rest of the day. I discovered too that I could use some of the techniques to help me in situations where my anxiety levels were once very high…… and the great thing here was no one ever knew what I was doing!
